The birth of the Renaissance in Florence
3-days Tour
Explore Renaissance culture. Inspired by the Florentine’s wonders.
Our work sets out to illustrate the beginnings of the Renaissance in Florence from an original and novel perspective, highlighting its revered importance as a standout period of cultural and social relevance.
We examine those circumstances that favoured and nurtured the birth of the Renaissance in Florence, taking into account the politically fragmented Italian peninsula and the wider socio-political climate of Western Europe, as well as the fluctuating cultural contexts of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries.
We shall be tackling some of following key questions: Which factors contributed to the evolution of the Renaissance and why did this happen specifically in Florence? What was the guiding spirit of the era, in addition to the rediscovery of antiquity? What position did women have? What role did literature play? What was the position of the Catholic Church whilst having three concurrently governing Popes? Why was the council in Constance so crucial to the development? Who originally promoted the arts and in which of the arts did we first see the Renaissance manifest itself; paintings, sculptures or architecture? Who were the different key artists of the time and which subsequent masterpieces arose?
Our investigation revolves around an exposition of the mystery and intrigue that surround the family de ‘Medici, a powerful clan of merchants, bankers and brilliant politicians whose extraordinary patronage catapulted them directly to the upper echelons of power and influence.
