Naples is the capital of the Italian region Campania and the third-largest municipality in Italy, after Rome and Milan. Naples is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Bronze Age Greek settlements were established in the Naples area in the second millennium BC. The city was refounded as Neàpolis in the V century BC and became a lynchpin of Magna Graecia, playing a key role in the merging of Greek culture into Roman society. Naples remained influential after the fall of the Western Roman Empire, serving as the capital city of the Kingdom of Naples between 1282 and 1816. Thereafter, in union with Sicily, it became the capital of the Two Sicilies until the unification of Italy in 1861.

Naples’ historic city centre is the largest in Europe, covering 1,700 hectares (4,200 acres) and enclosing 27 centuries of history, and is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

Capri is an island located in the Tyrrhenian Sea, on the south side of the Gulf of Naples. The main town Capri that is located on the island shares the name.

The Amalfi Coast is a stretch of coastline on the southern coast of the Sorrentine Peninsula. It’s a popular tourist destination for the region and Italy as a whole, attracting thousands of tourists annually.

Pompei was an ancient Roman city near modern Naples. Pompei, along with Herculaneum and many villas in the surrounding area, was mostly destroyed and buried under 4 to 6 m (13 to 20 ft) of ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.
